The importance of Sabr
So one day, I was so much annoyed and depressed with my life that I cant study for any exam and i cant get a transfer and I cant live with my family and life is hell. so I called a very nice senior of mine and stated all my problems to her, saying since you are more experienced than me and you know life way better than me, please suggest me some good way on how can I cope with all this that's going on in my personal as well as professional life.
She paused for a moment and then started " Look baita! the thing is that even if you get posted to your hometown and start living with your family, there is no guarantee that all your problems will vanish overnight and you wont have any in the future. When we evolve, the nature of our problems change but we still have them. Someone might have even bigger problems than you have. The thing is how you deal with them that matters. Being able to earn with your own hands and not being dependent upon others in itself is such a big blessing that we often ignore. You leave from your living place early and till the time you come back, you have earned a significant amount a laborer might earn in a week. So you should learn to appreciate what you have and ask for everything from Allah Almighty instead of crying in front of others, who can do you no harm or good.
It is a possibility that you might not have the things that you yearn so bad for even after you get what you desire. So always have tawakkal on Allah and trust in His plans. That's the beauty of sabr"
And that hit me hard.
Talking about sabr, lets explore what actually sabr is and the strategies to do sabr in the most adverse conditions…
Sabr is an Urdu word that means patience or endurance. It implies that no matter how hard times one faces, no matter how many challanges or adverseries occur in one’s life, an individual should remain calm, composed and steadfast and not utter a single word of complaint.
It has several benefits like reducing stress and anxiety, improved emotional regulation, increased self awareness and self control, enhanced ability to cope with adversity and greater sense of inner peace and contentment.
Islamically speaking, many Ayats of Holy Quran emphasize this vital virtue.
