Routine of a Busy Doc Mom

Routine of a Busy Doc Mom

Life in itself is really hard. But it gets even harder when you are full time working dr mom who is living miles away from her family due to job problems and job in itself is a problem. Cherry on the top is that you have no house help or access to daycare services/nursery due to the remote location of your job place and an extremely active toddler who is all dependent upon you and patients all day. Nobody can feel the pain and stress one has to endure in such a situation.

Pakistan has a total sifarish culture where you shouldn't be born or die before you become independent if you don't have a Pawwa is a dismal state of affairs. Earlier i believed that you can still thrive if you have got no one but now I have realized its not the case. There is a clear distinction between living and being alive. Still many thanks to Allah Almighty for putting me in a situation where I am still better than many people.

So a typical working day starts with getting up and making breakfast for myself and my toddler. Then quickly getting ready and making the toddler ready for office(the later is a quite gruesome task, details later)  where a load of patients and new challenges wait everyday. Despite of giving your best and doing more than what is required, still there is always something missing for some patients who are always thankless and never get satisfied. Their satiety centers have failed to respond towards doctors who think of them as slaves and having no personal lives. Still there are others who think of you are the Ultimate Healer and this makes me feel its worth it.

After a hectic day and getting tired of rants and complaints, hostel bed seems like heaven but it all depends upon the mood of His Highness, the toddler, if I can get rest or some play or something else is required after food. In winters, nowadays, there is an exception that the toddler loves bed as much as I do due to extreme cold and after I get up even when the toddler is asleep, boiling milk for next day, cooking, doing dishes and everything that all you can think of needs my attention.

Nowadays I have decided to give some time to my daily skincare routine and I apply something on my face to keep myself fresh(details coming in the next blogs)  and after that some K-Dramas on Netflix or YouTube before the sleep fairy hits me and I conserve my energy for another hectic day tomorrow.

Lots of efforts of your parents, lots of sacrifices on theirs and yours part and lots of midnight oil was burned in addition to tons of money from your parents to make you a doctor, in a hope of a better future, serving humanity and a good life but all the aspirations and dreams turn to dust when you join practical life. The day you decide to be a dr, you pledge your whole life, your youth, your family life and your happiness to the cause. You wont get anything back and even after that the people on social media blame doctors and you hear bad things from non-dr, it hurts a lot. If you cant feel our pain, at least don't be a cause of it. Earlier at least the situation of a dr was bad, now its pathetic. I am amongst the blessed ones. It pains to see those who are even worse.

Lets talk about what happened that made this sorry state of affairs for doctors:

Mushroom growth of private medical colleges

Lack of unity among the doctor community

Lack of government planning in healthcare sector

Lack of service structure for government doctors

Overall inflation and poor economic condition of the country

Covid-19 pandemic and its adverse effects worldwide

Exploitation of doctors by private hospital owners
